High Risk Work Licences in WA

Training news for WA Plant Operators.

In training news, the year 2010 will focus on improved changes to the ways in which enrolled candidates in WA (plant operators) can obtain their High Risk Licence for Forklift operations.

Please take the time to observe the WorkSafe Timetable we have supplied to aid in a seamless transition from ‘old’ to ‘new’ staff training qualifications.  United Equipment has a Recognition of Prior Learning strategy available on request (Australian Qualifications Framework) to aid in the process of obtaining a licence to operate your lifting plant for experienced operators.

Training recipients and their employer’s are reminded licensing is competency based and does not require an inexperienced operator to undergo several days of training in order to judge competence.  Such operators are given a chance to prove their observable skill-sets on day one with an option to negotiate further study and practice with their employer or us, as individual operator or employer needs may arise.  United Equipment maintains a policy of flexible learning pathways.

Updates to the changing national assessment policies and structures will be available by United Equipment over the coming months.  For now, check your operator’s credentials for any forklift related tasks you have employed them to perform, regardless of how often they utilise your mobile plant.

Special note:  Employers utilising Reach Stackers (Sea Container Handlers) in their operation must check staff training requirements as special conditions exist regarding suitable evidence of training that is consistent and within the spirit of the OHS Act (1984) WA.  This includes staff use of Walkie Stackers (duty of care), Order Pickers (licence) and Scissor Lifts (duty of care).  As always, existing workplace rules and conditions spell individual attention to detail.
